The third world concept of honor, not just as odd, but honor across all third world societies, explains the ad perfectly. If you possess this perspective that family is a rigid structure that can never be questioned, no matter how bad someone is, and you have an obligation to protect and defend any crimes, covering up any wrongdoing of your family, suddenly having the mom go against the daughter is a lifethreatening disavow. Suddenly, it's very, very important. This is because in this Indian cultural framework, you would never go against your own mother. You would never say publicly the things that your mother did or that your stepfather did. that is an absolute no-go. So, not only would the public not know about the abuse, even if they did know it, it must mean it's a failing of your character, not the failing of your parents' character because there's this elder respect. It's an honor system. And obviously, VC like his whole campaign team is also Indians from this Indian diaspora. So, in their eyes, this ad was a great idea because they were viewing it from that cultural lens. Meanwhile, in our culture, the western, more specifically northern European culture, we believe in individualism. We even believe that those who are victims really have an extra sense of innocence. And so, we look at this whole situation and we're appalled. We find it completely disgusting.
