The Will Sexton Files

Will Sexton in his own words, with sources.

How we know

Quotes on this site are copied from our records, with the date, the platform and a link to where they were said. Will Sexton's words are his. The family item also quotes James J. Sexton, in James's own words.

Where the quotes come from

The rules the build checks

  1. A published quote links to the original and to evidence: an archived copy or a file under /evidence/.
  2. Its text matches the stored text hash. Owner approval is a separate hash of the rendered record, kept in a file only the owner signs. A preview build still shows a record that is not in that file, with a "PENDING OWNER APPROVAL" banner. The build fails closed on that record unless the deployment is a preview or the local preview build is used.
  3. The time is an ISO-8601 UTC timestamp, or a calendar day when the record is marked date-only. A date-only line is a publish date or a capture date, not a spoken clock time. Discord times that are full timestamps are worked out from the message ID.
  4. Remote links are https on a fixed list of hosts. Screenshot paths start with /evidence/.
  5. "Single source" is calculated: the quote has a saved file and no archived copy. A quote with only an archived copy, or with both a saved file and an archived copy, does not get that label.
  6. Our analysis sits in a separate box marked "Our read". A section states a confidence level when one is on the record. Otherwise the section says "Will's words only, no analysis here."
  7. If his tone is unclear, the quote is labelled "tone unclear".
  8. Things he says that we cannot check, or that public records only partly support, are marked "He says".
  9. We quote Will. James J. Sexton's words appear in the family item, as his own words. Another member's words appear only where the owner decided to include them: one Super Chat item about Nate, labelled as a paraphrase.
  10. A place name appears only where the owner decided to publish it: the US Central time-zone note on the merch site, and the state names in the Plastic Radicals registry check.

The same checks run when the site is built and again when the pages load their content. The build stops if a published quote is missing its source, its evidence, or its time, if its text does not match the stored text hash, if an evidence file does not match its fingerprint, or if a file under the evidence folders is missing from the manifest. A one-character change to a rendered field changes the owner-approval hash. Unless this is a preview deployment or the local preview build, the build stops when that hash is not on file. A preview build shows the quote, and page copy that is not signed, with a PENDING OWNER APPROVAL banner.

Evidence fingerprints

A sha256 fingerprint is a short code worked out from a file. The same file always gives the same code. Change anything in it, even one letter or one pixel, and the code changes. The public copy of the list is evidence-manifest.json. It lists each published file name once, with its fingerprint. A screenshot is listed with the quote it belongs to. Caption files and unredacted originals that we do not publish are listed by file name and fingerprint only, with no folder path, and they are not linked from a quote. The owner-approval file stores the fingerprint of the full evidence list. To check a published file yourself, run shasum -a 256 file and compare the code it prints with the one listed for that file.

Where things stand

Will on Jews: 46 of 46 quotes have the evidence fields the build requires. Follow the money: 44 of 44 quotes have those fields. Who he is: 4 of 4 quotes have those fields. Every quote on these pages has those evidence fields. Quotes still waiting for the owner to approve the current wording are marked on the page.
